Summary:
The Monitor Tech employs intellectual, interpersonal and technical skills to monitor the central arrhythmia station, interpret slips, identifies abnormal rhythms, and notifies the Clinical Supervisor.
Assists Unit Secretary with order entry.
Provides information to patients, families, visitors and physicians.
Essential Functions:
Knowledge Base:
o Demonstrates working knowledge of medical terminology, phone, computer, and other communication systems.
o Demonstrates skill as receptionist and central liaison between all facets of communication and activity in the department.
Interacts with patients and public in an age-appropriate manner.
Organization of Work:
o Readies charts for admissions, transfers and discharge.
Maintains medical records accurately.
Prioritizes paperwork to best meet the needs of the patients and staff.
o Maintains a clean, organized and functional work area.
o Directs and coordinates patient scheduling and activity with other departments.
Intervention:
o Completes forms, registration and logbooks accurately and legibly.
Maintains department manuals in current and good condition.
o Responds promptly and appropriate to department needs.
o Communicates with Clinical Supervisor and nursing staff or other departments, keeping them informed of new orders and information.
o Monitors central arrhythmia stations and notifies RN regarding significant patient arrhythmias or changes.
Posts ECG strips per policy and as needed.
o Identifies central station equipment malfunction and notifies Bio-Med personnel promptly.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT o Resource Utilization:
Ensures that appropriate supplies and equipment are available, accounted for, and used in a cost-effective manner.
o Safety:
Helps to provide a clean, comfortable environment for customers and others by taking appropriate safety precautions and responds to urgent safety situations effectively.
o Productivity:
Organizes, prioritizes and completes activities in an efficient manner.
Demonstrates initiative in assisting others and performing other duties based on skill level and training orientation.
o Quality Improvement Program:
Participates in department problem solving, suggests improvements, and facilitates change.
Skills:
Ability to communicate with physicians, SJHS-HC staff, and outside agencies.
Helpful, service-oriented approach is critical.
Computer proficiency in MS Windows and Office environment.
Ability to work independently, set priorities, organize and systematically handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.

Diploma or GED Coursework/Training - Must complete basic arrhythmia course and pass a rhythm interpretation test administered by St.
Joseph Hospital with a minimum of 85%.
Coursework/Training - Successful completion of Hospital administered Medi Tech course for order entry within first 30 days of employment.
